Our Story

ColubrisMX, Inc. is a medical device company that designs and develops next-generation surgical robotic devices that hold unparalleled promise for providing novel surgical treatment.

Our surgical robots are capable of completing minimally
invasive surgeries and endoluminal surgeries.

Led by a Research and Development Team comprising expert engineers and internationally recognized surgeons,
ColubrisMX is located in Houston, Texas, at the heart of the Texas Medical Center,
the largest medical complex of its kind in the world.

Kurt Azarbarzin

Chief Executive Officer

Kurt Azarbarzin currently serves as CEO of ColubrisMX, a medical device company developing the worlds most advanced fully-robotic Endoluminal (ELS) and Single-Port (SPS) surgical robotic platforms. He was previously the President and CEO of Verb Surgical, a JV between J&J and Google developing soft tissue surgical robots. In addition to his role with ColubrisMX, he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Standard Bariatrics, Inc. and TELA Bio, Inc., and is a member of the Executive Board at the Center for Biomedical Innovation and Technology at Yale University.Prior to joining Verb Surgical, he was the Chief Technology Officer of CONMED Corporation where he led the research and development across all subsidiaries and business units. He was previously Founder and CEO of SurgiQuest, Inc., a medical device company focused on minimally invasive surgery that was acquired for $265 million by CONMED Corporation in November 2015.

Daniel Kim, MD, FAANS, FACS

Founder, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Daniel Kim, Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), is the Founder, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer of ColubrisMX. Dr. Kim has won numerous awards and honors, authored hundreds of papers, owns over 150 patents and published 20 surgical textbooks. He is a preeminent researcher in peripheral nerve repair through nerve transfer and nerve graft and is also recognized for his work in neurorehabilitation through robotics and cortical stimulation, spinal biomechanics, and innovative neuromodulation treatments for chronic pain. Dr. Kim is adjunct professor of Bioengineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Rice University.

Dongsuk Shin, PhD

Chief Technology Officer

Dongsuk Shin serves as the Chief Technology Officer, leading the Research and Development team. Dr. Shin holds a PhD in Bioengineering from Rice University and has over 15 years of experiences in medical device development. Dr. Shin is a former Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and led the engineering team at Microsurgical Robotics Laboratory.
